Dreaming of an Evening
By Damian Gray
Night walks in beauty, and talks mutely
Opening up sweetly to we who aren't sleepy
As the city lowers her eyelids and slows her breathing
Winding down the evening, we start dreaming
The curtains are drawn, the nightlife awakens
Coming from the gardens and secret places
We all know each other as if we were neighbours
Year after year It's always the same faces
The streets are lying still - everything's silent
Every where’s open, public and private
And the noise and excitement, traffic and violence
Give way to a climate of harmonious vibrance
The day changes laws and the city centres
Summers go by, followed by winters
And flowing with the river or blowing with the weather
The people of the night carry on together
At night the conversation runs softly and slowly
But all sorts of people spend time getting to know me
Some are socialites, some are just lonely
All of them are different & they all have different stories
Night walks in beauty, and talks mutely
Opening up sweetly to we who aren't sleepy
As the city lowers her eyelids and slows her breathing
Winding down the evening, we start dreaming.
